hydrant

I feel this flame
some reddish
kind of desire
this burning passion
within me
ready to burst
if you could
only imagine
pressure   ~   being
so …    so great
yes   ~   building
and building
to the point
where it could blow
the caps
right off a fire hydrant
then freely flowing
like water
on a hot
and humid day
along a city street
that bearer
of temporary relief
amid the struggle
to simply live

I guess …..   you now know
better understand
my need
to artistically create
images   ~   capturing
a moment in time
described poetically
with the flow of words

one flower each day

I dream of sending you
my muse
one flower each day
from now to eternity
vibrant in color
to be planted
and nurtured by your hands
in what would become
this great garden
a beautiful sanctuary
for retreat and solace
where the energy of life
springs forth from the ground
to revitalize your spirit
your body finds
the healing it needs
and then the smile
that fills
your face
would make me
imagine all the more
this dream of sending you
my muse
one flower each day
from now to eternity
hopefully to become
for you and me
something
wonderful and real

The Women ~ Happy Mother’s Day MOM!

I  have an online flip-book of poetry in the process of being finished called The Woman ~ as perceived by The Man (soon to be in print).  The book contains art from four women who are world class artists, Denise Denomy, Regina A. Walker, Azzi Kalili-Williams and Era Tak.

The poem that follows to my two daughters is from the book. The poem embodies the loving spirit of my mother which the love my mother gave me, I in turn tried to give to my daughters when they were growing up. These days my 2nd daughter is a mother herself and I see the spirit of my mother’s love in her towards her children.

Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom and my daughter …. I am truly grateful for all The Women in my life.

The Women

oh my two
sweet   ~   little
adorably precious
and beautiful girls
your daddy
will love you
~   forever
as you become
the women
I’m hoping
yes   ~   praying
you both want
and shall be
oh   ~   how
they did love
to sit upon my lap
snuggly dressed
for bed
wearing those
cute footy pajamas
~   acting enthused
and showing
that nightly anticipation
all from being used to
having this father
with daughters
~   bonding ritual
of which now
many years later
is held tightly in
this ageing
man’s memory
~   me being
appointed the honor
by them   ~
as if I was
some master storyteller
to exuberantly
read aloud
~   while they’d
melodiously joined in   ~
singing the words
written within
a children’s book
that began with its title
I’ll love you forever,”
~   and
after which
as we’d finish
they’d both giggle
then hug me dearly
~   boy oh boy
I gotta tell you
during such
cherished moments
with my daughters   ~
I’d reflect back
to my boyhood
where I’d fondly recall
the love of my mother
who to me   ~
embodied
the character
of the woman
lovingly portrayed
within the pages
of this book
wherefore and within
such love
I was given
I’d hope and pray
with all my might
both my girls
shall be
as the woman
my mother was
and still is  ~
by experiencing from me
how I was loved
and cared
for
by her as a son
~   and in like manner
I’d promise
to do the same
for both of them
as my daughters
saying   ~
again and again
to myself   ~
oh my two
sweet   ~   little
adorably precious
and beautiful girls
your daddy
will love you
~   forever
as you become
the women
I’m hoping
yes   ~   praying
you both want
and shall be

realm of darkness

each day as I walk ….
….  this morning ritual
to clear my head
of the stuff
that dreams
are made of   ~
~   you know
all those
discombobulated
archaic
patterns and images
that haunt a soul
from the depths
of some Jungian
collective unconscious
and too
hopefully
my steps
exercise off
the pounds
accumulated with age   ~

~   this morn
I note
the dawn filled sky
has lessened in intensity …..
…..   as the length of summer days
become shorter
and the chirp of birds
which announce
the new day
has given way
to the buzz of insects   ~
~   the usual accompanimemt
throughout the year
for my 4 AM stroll
within the realm of darkness

my sincerity

I’m not exactly
handsome
or the king of charm
I tend to hang
on the shady
side  …..
…..   the dark realm
so to speak
I feel a little low
to the ground
at times
’cause I’m deeply rooted
in the earth’s vibes
whether if
positive
or negative

when you’ve felt
rock bottom
your outlook
is from there   ~
~   nowhere but up
hope gains relevance
desire builds
you get a want
a burning spirit
to change things
not only for yourself
but for others as well

my sincerity
has become magical
even if
I’m not exactly
handsome
or the king of charm

Strong ~ feel better

nothing stronger
than a people
united
through principle
inspired to lend a hand
when a fellow patriot falls  ….
…..  is blown asunder
in a wink of an eye
by some
disenchanted evil   ~
~   this lost soul
who suffers a moral
disconnect
to justify
an act of terror
that includes
the innocent child   ~

~   it is within
the collective arms
of the people
where love and support
brings healing to those
found in harms way

Boston Strong   ~
We the People Strong   ~
Humanity Strong  …
…   united as one
through principle

if so …..
…..  then
All the People
can and will   ~
~   feel better

visible

if there was no light
to brighten the darkness
make visible
what’s there to be seen
how empty the universe
would seem
and yet there are times
when all is pitch black
there is this peace
that’s so welcoming
to the weary soul
who needs a break
from the day to day
madness ….   revealed
within the light of day

peace out  world

connection

I do not claim to be an expert
some teller
as to meaning
in regards to the movement
of the planets
the why and the wherefore   ~
which constitutes cosmic alignment
and yet ….   I do know
the moon full and bright
has been the bond
over distance and time
that has maintained
our connection

happenstance

this ensemble…..  light
and shadow spread
across pavement
maybe there
for the mind
to see
some natural pattern
of familiarity
something recognizable
or maybe
instead
this haphazard
emergence
………   happenstance
left for
the fertile imagination
to explore significance
