a fiddler and his grandson

my grandpa was a fiddler
who even made a fiddle once
supposedly like  …
…   a Stradivarius
but he never finished it   ~
~   why
I don’t know
grandpa played the fiddle
by ear …   he’d start singing
the lyrics
then follow
with the bow
across the strings
you’d hear
the words to the song
“Old Shep”   ~

When I was a lad
And old Shep was a pup
Over hills and meadows
we’d stray
Just a boy and his dog
We were both full of fun
We grew up together that way

and that’s how it was
as a lad …   growing up listenin’
to his grandpa
just a fiddler and his grandson
