she is my BFF

she is as real
as the sun in the sky
…. shining brightly
on a cold Winter’s day
that gives off
a radiant light ….
so spectacularly
it warms
all our hearts
she is my BFF
BEST FRIEND FOREVER
I first felt her warmth
in the 6th grade
she ended up marrying
one of my dearest friends
and together had
a magnificent son
who is a son to me now
over the years
like the tides of the sea
due to circumstances
we have drifted in and out
of each others lives
in later years
as I quickly approach
my sixties
I have become
a social activist artist
and the spectacular her
her struggle
the good with the bad
has brought her forth
as a Mark Twain
Halley’s Comet type
to become one of
my most influential muses

can you hear in the current
political movement
that
resurgent
murmur
more prevalent
in days gone by
within the disposition
of human existence
dormant viral
traits of
human behavior
just thirsting for
its former prominence

to the intelligently progressive

a societal environment
and ideology
that fully supports
the inalienable rights
a part of THE LAWS OF NATURE

for We the people

should be a basis of fear

why I’ve turned up
the dial for the heat of ~
the societal stove
as a social activist
performance artist
I use this kind of ~
direct action art
to create a body metaphor
while participating in an event
like a marathon
I artistically wear
black running clothes with a hood
a symbolism for bringing back
the light
out of ~
the darkness
hidden social ills
that plague THE HUMAN RACE
to be aired out
and confronted through
the healing process of …..
dialogue
that will lead humanity
to a healthy
and peaceful coexistence

this mentor and friend

has shown
the world and to me
his propensity towards peace

he took part in orchestrating

he went to jail

as if a reenactment

“thou shall not kill”
an ideological purpose

I’ve stayed at his home
went to the local flee market

and fellow comrades

as an arrow shot to the heart

its ability
to effectively communicate
to the people

not everything…. must end

every ~ thing in Nature
must end
like the year does
at the end of December
We the people
of the human-kind
THE HUMAN RACE
inherently grow old
and tire-out
eventually
at the end of our lives
our bodies wither away
as dust
under the stars
of heaven
we acquiesce
to the laws of Nature
whether it be
peaceful or not
….. after our end
We the people
of the human-kind
THE HUMAN RACE
do live on though
through the help
of artifacts
left behind
for a while
in the memory of those
still alive

do such endings
to our human life
this end
somehow diminish
our good deeds
our contributions
to the living
where We the people
of the human-kind
THE HUMAN RACE
~ our acts
our proactive manner
to initiate change
for the betterment of all
weren’t worthy
of our effort
and time
hold no lasting value
or benefit
for our kind
THE HUMAN RACE
that maybe
we should have not
done them
in the first place

God bless those who do

to give back to life
more than they received
saw the wisdom in doing so

as I ran those finishing
miles …. of the Richmond
Virginia Marathon
this performance artist
dressed in all black with a hood
an artist using art to create change
for all THE HUMAN RACE
regardless
of skin color

ethnicity
culture
or way of belief
I’m running this race
from start to finish
to create
this breathing
dynamic
and proactive
body metaphor
today
for all watching to see
to promote my

a vitamin and an Aleve
before stepping outside
into the darkness
the hot to the cold
I’d say to myself
if Bertie can
get up and moving
as she lives
her day to day struggle

SO CAN I
I will lose the weight
improve my health
I will run that marathon
to show all I love
