back in the day
that energizer bunny
couldn’t keep it going
like me
ENERGY
it flowed through me
as if I was the superhero
Captain Atom
willpower was the nitro
in my reserve tank
it fueled me
to do anything
then the genetic demon
(FSHD1)
lurking inside of me
since birth
disguised as something else
caught me totally off guard
it triggered
like a time bomb
that sucked out
all my energy
to the point
I became
a lethargic sloth …..
that turned me forever
into a “spoonie”
someone
who monitors
the DEPLETION
of his
precious energy
every second of the day
chronic pain and fatigue
possesses me
like I am
in need of
an exorcist
although ~ the curse
has no cure
the muscles around
my lungs ….. diminished
I just couldn’t breathe fully
a carbon dioxide
druggie ~ I‘ve become
where my brain
floats around in the fog
and nap time
has become a refuge
for rejuvenation
that feels temporary
at best …..
sometimes
I dream
that I‘m still
