This poem is dedicated to the author of Leaving the Hall Light On,\u00a0<\/em>Madeline Sharples<\/a>. \u00a0She is one of my closest and dearest friends on planet earth. \u00a0My hero ! \u00a0I love her so……<\/p>\n

summer brings to mind
\nfun in the sun
\nand vacation
\n~ \u00a0 \u00a0sittin’
\non the deck
\nwith martini in hand
\n~ \u00a0 \u00a0cookin’
\non the grill
\n~ \u00a0 \u00a0hangin’
\nwith friends
\nand neighbors
\n~ \u00a0 \u00a0nuttin’
\nwrong with that I say
\nbut for me
\nthis year
\nI’ll be having fun
\non June 27th
\n~ \u00a0 kickin’
\noff
\nthe summer season
\n~ \u00a0 \u00a0walkin’
\n16 plus miles
\nthe event
\nOut of the Darkness
\nOvernight<\/a><\/em> walk in Boston
\nwith one of my heroes
\nin life
\nauthor
\nMadeline Sharples
\nwho wrote a memoir with poems
\nLeaving the Hall Light On<\/em>
\nto preserve the memory
\nof her son Paul
\nwho had bipolar disorder
\nand committed suicide
\nhow she and her family
\nmanaged to live on
\nafterwards<\/p>\n

as I said
\n~ \u00a0 \u00a0doin’
\nsomething\u00a0like that
\nis fun
\nfor me
\nin mind and body
\nand spiritually refreshing
\nto the soul
\ntruly a break from it all
\na vacation
\nof the highest order
\nselfless service
\nthe act of
\n~ \u00a0 \u00a0givin’
\nway more than just
\n~ \u00a0 \u00a0takin’
\nfrom the experience
\nof life
\n~ \u00a0 durin’
\nthe season of summer<\/p>\n
