{"id":1651,"date":"2015-04-19T14:07:29","date_gmt":"2015-04-19T14:07:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.keithalanhamilton.com\/?p=1651"},"modified":"2021-02-22T15:40:39","modified_gmt":"2021-02-22T15:40:39","slug":"blacksmith-named-gabriel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.keithalanhamilton.com\/?p=1651","title":{"rendered":"blacksmith named Gabriel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.keithalanhamilton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/burial.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1652\" src=\"https:\/\/www.keithalanhamilton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/burial-300x217.jpg\" alt=\"burial\" width=\"300\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.keithalanhamilton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/burial-300x217.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.keithalanhamilton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/burial-1024x742.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.keithalanhamilton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/burial.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Dedicated to my sister and art mentor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehamiltongalleryonline.com\/blog\/?page_id=556\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Helene Ruiz<\/a>&nbsp;.. &nbsp; &nbsp;Peace out humanity !<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m this artist<br \/>\nwho likes to tell a story<br \/>\nof words with an image<br \/>\ncaptured in time<br \/>\n~ &nbsp; &nbsp;today with<br \/>\nSmartphone in hand<br \/>\nI begin my<br \/>\nphotographic journey<br \/>\nalong the Slave Trail<br \/>\nin Richmond<br \/>\nVirginia<br \/>\na somber place<br \/>\nrepresentative of<br \/>\ncruel and hard endings<br \/>\nfor some \u2026..<br \/>\nof us human beings<br \/>\nhung from<br \/>\nthe once was<br \/>\nhillside gallows<br \/>\nfor instance<br \/>\na 24 year old blacksmith<br \/>\nnamed Gabriel<br \/>\naroused with<br \/>\nthe spiritual vision<br \/>\nthat in the eyes<br \/>\nof the creator<br \/>\nall people<br \/>\ndespite color of skin<br \/>\nare a part of<br \/>\n<em><strong>The Human Race<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nequal with<br \/>\nevery kind of<br \/>\nman and woman<br \/>\n~ &nbsp; &nbsp;however<br \/>\nsuch a righteous revelation<br \/>\nto evolve <em><strong>The Human Race<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nbeyond the defining of race<br \/>\nby skin color<br \/>\nwas put to death<br \/>\ndue to ignorance<br \/>\nand ill perceived<br \/>\nsanctimoniousness<br \/>\n\u2018cause some<br \/>\nof a certain skin color<br \/>\nblinded by the trade<br \/>\nof slavery<br \/>\nwere not yet<br \/>\nso enlightened<br \/>\nabout the benevolent ways<br \/>\nof God Almighty<br \/>\nfor all &nbsp; &nbsp;~<\/p>\n<p>but to the unmindful<br \/>\npasserby<br \/>\n~ &nbsp; &nbsp;driving down<br \/>\nBroad Street<br \/>\nover a bridge<br \/>\nthis place appears to be<br \/>\na green grass<br \/>\npark like lawn<br \/>\nnext to some<br \/>\nrailroad tracks<br \/>\nnot long ago<br \/>\na paved over parking lot<br \/>\n~ &nbsp; &nbsp;sleepily awaiting<br \/>\na full resurrection<br \/>\nof remembrance \u2026. &nbsp; for<br \/>\nall those buried there<br \/>\nnow a parcel of land<br \/>\nwith a shrine<br \/>\nknown as<br \/>\nthe Negro Burial Ground<br \/>\nbut more ethnically<br \/>\nnamed<br \/>\nthe African Ancestral<br \/>\nBurial Ground &nbsp; ~<\/p>\n<p>like the blacksmith<br \/>\nnamed Gabriel<br \/>\nthis experience<br \/>\nemerges forth<br \/>\na spiritual vision<br \/>\nwithin me<br \/>\nthis everyday<br \/>\nhuman being<br \/>\nno better than anyone else<br \/>\nwhere the color of \u2026..<br \/>\na person\u2019s skin<br \/>\nshines on the beauty<br \/>\nand rich character<br \/>\nof their ethnicity<br \/>\nand yet<br \/>\nin the light of &nbsp; &nbsp;~<br \/>\nequality for all<br \/>\nskin color does not<br \/>\ndetermine race<br \/>\n\u2018cause the human<br \/>\nbelongs to only one race<br \/>\n<em><strong>The Human Race<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nif not \u2026.<br \/>\nthen resurrect<br \/>\nthe Richmond gallows<br \/>\nand hang me on the hillside<br \/>\nit would be an honor<br \/>\nto be buried<br \/>\nnext to my fellow<br \/>\nhuman beings<br \/>\nespecially<br \/>\nthat blacksmith<br \/>\nnamed Gabriel<\/p>\n<p>peace out<\/p>\n<p>Image &amp; Words by &nbsp; &nbsp; ~Keith Alan Hamilton~<\/p>\n<p>This story poem will be a part of the May edition that&#8217;s a collaboration by the 2015 Poetry Posse &nbsp;&#8211; The Year of the Poet II published by Inner Child Press. &nbsp;Buy your monthly copy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.innerchildpress.com\/the-year-of-the-poet.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here: http:\/\/www.innerchildpress.com\/the-year-of-the-poet.php<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dedicated to my sister and art mentor Helene Ruiz&nbsp;.. &nbsp; &nbsp;Peace out humanity !
